Personal Responsibilty

Those who continue to insist on language that harps on the Presidents citizenship are just so not with the program. Want to complain about his fiscal policy, domestic policy or foreign policy and now three wars?...please have at it. Questioning these issues is your right and responsibility as an American citizen. But this return to McCarthy style endless questioning of the legitimacy of his birth certificate is both irresponsible and transparent as a cheap low minded, reality TV style trick intended only to marginalize the Obama Presidency. My God we so have other challenges to worry about...

  1. I agree that the birther issue is low-brow. Yet I am sympathetic as to why it exists. I don't think it exists only to marginalize the Obama Presidency...he is doing that just fine all by himself. I think birthers have emerged as a response to the disparity between the "campaign Obama" and the "ruling Obama." Campaign Obama was all about unity of the political parties, enthusiasm and hope for all things good, transparency and change in government that all Americans could embrace. Ruling Obama is all about brute political force, excluding the opposition from the political process(unless it agrees with him), and platitudes and fear-mongering. In such an environment it is easy to see why deeply passionate people cling to their bibles and guns. Ruling Obama is not up to the job. He is too young. He might have been an important President had he stayed in the Senate for 12 years, built up a following for bipartisanship and learned the importance of compromise. Instead he will go down in history as the bitter disappointment President.

  2. YES! An opportunity to recognize and build upon common ground! My President and our military have done a great service by cutting off the head of the al qaeda snake: bin Laden! This is an excellent example of a Democrat continuing the policy of a Republican for the greater good of America. Three cheers for Mr. Obama! He exercised genuine leadership. No doubt he'll be roundly criticized by the left, but the vast majority of Americans will rally behind this bold leadership. And so, opportunity knocks. Political capital has been obtained. So now there is spending to be cut, deficits to be eliminated and debt to be paid off: 14 Trillion dollars worth. It's a big job. We can do it. At the same time we need to create jobs, so hopefully we won't raise the cost of capital investment by raising taxes. Let's start with spending cuts, let the economy start to rev up, and once the recovery is well under way, that will be the time to raise taxes.
