News Corp and Watergate
Are there comparisons to be made between the Murdoch News Corp. hacking scandal and the Nixon administrations Watergate scandal? Albeit this is the media not a sitting US President, yet the gravity, consequence and nefarious nature resonates. Illicit payments, attempts at cover-up, wiretapping / hacking, desire for power control and leaders who insulate themselves from "specific knowledge" of illegal activity.

There are no doubt more smoking guns in the Murdoch News Scandal than in a Mickey Spillane novel. Similarities to Nixon and the Watergate Scandal? Haldeman, Erlichman, and G. Gordon Liddy are small-timers compared to Murdoch and his media empire. Nixon existed in the pre-Fox era, and was at war with the media (literally, as his enemies list included several members of the fourth estate). In this case the media is the scandal. There are similarities in that Murcoch runs a global organization that supports the same business and military interests as did Nixon. Witness the Chilean regime change engineered by ITT, Pepsi Cola, and the Nixon administration. But I doubt we'll ever see or hear of any smoking guns. The perperators are safely interwoven into the geo-political and economic fabric and the media is their modus operandi. Meanwhile the Fox empire will keep us pacified with bread and circuses. Dan
